we're building something worth joining.
whereabouts is a small firm with an intentionally big vision for how a geospatial consulting company should treat its people. We publish our compensation. We mandate time off. We share our profits. We work 32 hours a week and we mean it. We don’t fuck around.
open positions
We don't have any specific open positions right now. But just in case that changes, why don’t you send us your resume?
If you're interested in working with whereabouts and think you'd be a strong fit, pop a short introduction and resume over to geospatial@whereaboutsco.com with the subject line “in case you’re interested, here’s a resume.”
We read everything, the good, the bad, and the time-wasting AI generated sales pitches (but please don’t send us those…).
internships
$25/hr, 20 hours a week for a 3-month term
$1,000 completion bonus at end of term
Term extensions available on a case-by-case basis
Options for contract or full-time employment
To apply: send your resume and a short note about what you're hoping to learn to geospatial@whereaboutsco.com with the subject line "internship, please."

We're growing. We're not a firm with dozens of open roles and a recruiting pipeline. We're a founder-led geospatial consultancy that's thoughtful about who we bring in and when. We'd rather grow slowly and get it right than scale fast and lose what makes us worth joining. We don’t want to be massive and monopolizing. We want to be small and happy, like one of Molly’s cats.

We hire for character before credentials.
Specifically, we're drawn to people who:
Are genuinely curious about the work and the industries we serve
Communicate clearly and honestly, including when something isn't going well
Care about the communities their work affects
Can work independently without needing someone to check in constantly, but like checking in anyways because their colleagues are nice
Bring expertise without ego, like, any ego
-
We occasionally bring in contractors and collaborators for specific project needs. Send a short introduction and your areas of expertise to geospatial@whereaboutsco.com with the subject line "contract work offered by a single real person."
Please don't send unsolicited recruiting pitches or staffing agency outreach.
